Same entity IDs
The new entities take over the IDs of the old ones, with names, icons, areas, labels, voice assistant aliases and options.

StableHome Assistant · HACS · open source
Replace a device in Home Assistant and keep everything that depends on it: the new device takes over the entity IDs, settings and history of the old one – for example when moving sensors from Zigbee to Thread, or when a broken device is swapped.
Free under MIT · Runs inside Home Assistant · Preview and undo for every swap

When a device is replaced, Home Assistant sees a brand-new device with new entity IDs. Nine Lives moves everything over, shows every change first and can undo it.
The new entities take over the IDs of the old ones, with names, icons, areas, labels, voice assistant aliases and options.
The new entities continue the old history and long-term statistics instead of starting empty.
Energy, gas and water sums continue smoothly, even when the old device is already unplugged.
Device triggers, conditions, actions and targets in automations, scripts, scenes and dashboards point to the new device.
Entities are paired by type, device class and unit, not by order, and every pair can be adjusted.
YAML files are never edited, only listed. Device triggers that may not exist on the new device are flagged for review.
Pick the old and the new device and Nine Lives proposes the pairs. Entities without a partner stay where they are, and every pair can be changed before anything happens.

The old device is disabled, the new one gets its area and labels, and a notification sums up what is left to do. Recent swaps can be undone with one click.

Nine Lives needs Home Assistant 2026.10 or newer and appears in the sidebar for admins.
